1-12-26    THOUGHTS

Life has its cycles.  Verses 14-15 below are the cycle of sin in our lives.  We are given the motivation and the process!  Our own lusts entice us to sin.  Lust grows into sin, and sin takes its course to death.  Rom 6:23   “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”    Rom 6:14  “For sin shall not be master over you,” our text speaks of the insidious process that allows sin to dominate us.  We practice sin, and when that happens, we are dead.  The bible uses the word “flee” in relation to sin.   Jas 4:7-8a  “Submit therefore to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you  8  Draw near to God and He will draw near to you..”  We must note that God does not change!

Jas 1:12-18   Blessed is a man who perseveres under trial; for once he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which [the Lord] has promised to those who love Him.  Let no one say when he is tempted, "I am being tempted by God"; for God cannot be tempted by evil, and He Himself does not tempt anyone. 1
4  But each one is tempted when he is carried away and enticed by his own lust.  15  Then when lust has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and when sin is accomplished, it brings forth death.  16  Do not be deceived, my beloved brethren.  17  Every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shifting shadow.  18  In the exercise of His will He brought us forth by the word of truth, so that we would be a kind of first fruits among His creatures.

Our Prayer:
You are the only true and living God, worthy of all our praise and honor and thanksgiving.  Gracious and merciful God, how great You are!  Your gifts and blessing toward us are wonderful and Your storehouse without end.  Help us to pursue holiness, O God.  Help us to resist the devil.  May we gain the skills we need from Your word, O Lord, walk in Your ways and to shun the ways of this world.  Transform us O God to abide in You.  In the name of Jesus,   Amen.
